Chapter 9
I closed my eyes, refusing to talk to him!
During the week I was in the hospital, Gary put aside his work and stayed by my side day and night. But I didn’t need his company.
He even learned how to cook and make soup at home.
Gary was a smart guy. He could learn things just by looking at the videos online for one time. I used to crave his care but never got any. Now, his affection and care only made me sick.
“Rachel, I remember you love coconut chicken. I spent two hours cooking this soup, and the chicken is so soft that it melts in your mouth. It’s perfect for you since you just lost a baby!”
Staring at the coconut juice, I just didn’t feel like eating.
“Gary, coconut chicken is the food I hate the most. But you like it. So, I often had it with you.”
His hand holding the soup paused in mid–air.
“Ah, that’s okay, Rachel. What do you like? I’ll cook it for you at home!”
“No thanks. I’ll just order something!”
“How can you eat takeout? You just lost a baby and need nutrition. Takeout isn’t nutritious and unhygienic. You…” “I’m not a princess. I’m not that delicate!”
My words rendered Gary’s face turn pale.
He remembered.
When I gave birth to Mia and was recovering myself, I asked Gary to hire a nanny for me. At that time, his company was short of funds. So, he scolded me for trying to squander money on unnecessary expenses.
“Not all women who had children need nannies! Those who look after their children alone without nannies also live a good life! If you don’t wanna cook, just order takeout!”
“I’m breastfeeding. Having takeout isn’t good for the baby!”
“Rachel, you are not a princess. Do you have to be so delicate? I really spoil you too much!”
Therefore, I had no choice but to take care of Mia, do the groceries, and cook by myself.
Later, after the crisis was over, Gary gave me 100,000 dollars and let me buy whatever I wanted.
But I knew that the new project had brought the company at least one million dollars of profit!
I was still in love with him back then and was willing to endure hardships. So, I didn’t care how much money he gave
- me.
I had grown from a newbie mother, but the 100,000 dollars was still in the safe at home. I didn’t spend a penny.
I thought we would finally reap the rewards of our hard work as his company prospered.
Later, I understood that as long as a woman was willing to endure hardships, there would be endless hardships to
endure.
