Chapter 259 Shifting the Blame
Nathael’s declaration sent shockwaves through the crowd, leaving Ronald momentarily stunned.
But soon, he snapped out of his trance. Joy spread across Ronald’s face, only to slowly fade, replaced by a solemn expression.
The attention of others shifted to Nathael and Maggie as the realization settled in like a tidal wave.
This man was the heir to the Harrises!
For years, there had been virtually no gossip about his personal life, let alone any mention of a woman by
his side.
What were they witnessing today?
In their lifetimes, they had never imagined they would see Nathacl publicly declare his affection. It seemed so unbelievable that some doubted their own ears.
While some pondered the immediate implications, others considered the long–term consequences.
Maggie’s years of devoted service to the Camerons were well known, despite her adoption from an orphanage.
At the time, the Camerons found themselves in a perilous situation.
The newfound ties between Maggie and Nathael led some to wonder if Luster Corporation might see a revival from the brink.
Upon hearing Nathael’s proclamation, Beth was momentarily dazed.
Her mind went blank as his words replayed over and over in her mind, where he said, ‘I love Maggie; she’s been the only one I ever love.
The words reverberated in her mind like a surround sound system, impossible to ignore.
Despite Beth’s efforts to maintain her composure, tears welled up in her eyes almost instinctively.
How could he do this to me?
How could someone like him be interested in Maggie?
Why? Just why?
Isn’t Maggie scheming, manipulative, vain, and power–hungry? How could he possibly like her?
Her voice felt trapped in her throat. If Nathael had shown affection for a woman clearly superior to her. she might have convinced herself not to fight and gracefully accepted her defeat.
Did this woman truly care for him?
Beth found the world to be absurd.

“Nathael. Beth’s voice trembled as she spoke. She tried to force a smile, but her unwillingness to accept her fate was evident. “Do you truly love her?”
Nathael, clearly impatient, had no intention of repeating himself. Beth cocked her head and sneered, “I don’t believe it.”
Nathael had no interest in prolonging the conversation. He glanced down at the distressed waiter before him and asked coldly. “Since you accuse Beth, do you have evidence?”
The crowd’s attention snapped back to the present. Ben was momentarily puzzled, but after a few seconds, he quickly regained his composure and hurriedly replied. “I have a recording of her driver making the deal and the convenience store’s surveillance footage!”
He had been working at the convenience store when Beth’s driver, a burly man in black, approached him with an offer he couldn’t refuse.
After hearing the proposition, he instinctively glanced outside.
Beth sat in the back seat of the car; the window rolled down slightly and revealed a beautiful profile.
Once she saw that he knew who his employer was, she rolled up the window, which seemed detached and elegant.
He knew this was a bad deed, but he was out of options. Yet he didn’t want to end up in jail afterward, so he kept evidence and recorded parts of their conversation.
He had thought to himself that, for such a trivial matter, they were willing to pay a hefty price of 150
to thousand dollars. Should things go south and he face jail time, at least he could use the evidence bargain for his safety.
Over the years, he became well acquainted with the hard life, growing accustomed to the fickleness of human relationships. And he understood that wealthy people’s capabilities had no bounds.
At worst, even if they were unwilling to protect him, at the very least he could use the evidence to buy time until his mother’s surgery was complete.
Immediately, Ben pulled out his phone and played a recording for all to hear.
“Are you the waiter for Mr. Clocke’s party the day after tomorrow?” a rough male voice.
“Who are you?”
“Let’s strike a deal. Pay close attention to Maggie Adam. You’ll receive 75,000 dollars upfront and another 75,000 dollars upon completion.”
Ben was no fool. His heart was racing, but he couldn’t help but ask, “Keep an eye on her for what? You don’t get paid that much just for watching someone, right?”
“You’ll do whatever my miss told you,” she replied.
Ben hesitated for a long time, but he couldn’t resist the sight of the check in front of him.
“Will it cost a life?” he probed.
He wasn’t one for killing; after all, he wasn’t a lawless man.

“Not to that extent, but life and death are in the hands of fate. Will you do it, or shall we find someone else?” The burly voice had little patience.
Upon hearing this, Ben decided to strike the deal.
If it wasn’t him, someone else would step in. Those with power and influence always had their way.
If someone had to do it, why not him?
Ben proceeded to play a video from the convenience store. Immediately, someone in the crowd recognized the man in the video and exclaimed, “I’ve seen that man! He is Ms. Bray’s driver and the expensive bodyguard the Brays have hired.
“Who would have thought Beth could be so malicious? If Maggie had actually fallen, she could have been seriously injured.”
“Exactly! That’s malicious, especially for someone from a distinguished family.”
“I’ve heard rumors about the Brays trying to arrange a marriage with the Harrises, but now it seems Ms. Bray might have become jealous and resented Ms. Adam.”
I personally think Ms. Adam and Mr. Harris make a better match. I’ve heard Ms. Adam’s musical piece before; it was quite sensational. From the way she handles the situation, she certainly carries herself like a lady from a noble family.”
The discussion continued.
Murmurs continued non–stop; those words were harsh and piercing, directed at Beth from various angles.
Beth’s expression was a mixture of anger and embarrassment, but she remained composed.
Being from a reputable family, she knew how to handle such situations.
“Arnold, come out here! What is all this about?” Beth called out coldly, summoning her driver–cum- bodyguard.
A mocking glint shone in Maggie’s eyes as Beth tried to shift the blame.
However, despite being aware of the situation, Maggie was powerless to change it.
Ultimately, the Brays employed Beth’s bodyguard, who would remain loyal to her.
Beth managed to maintain her poised and dignified image as the daughter of a prestigious family, even though everyone knew the truth.
The burly bodyguard stepped forward quickly, bowing his head, artd took the blame. He said, “I’m sorry. Ms. Bray. I noticed Ms. Adam schemingly seduce Mr. Harris, so I acted impulsively. I’m willing to accept punishment!”
The bodyguard’s cleverness and diplomacy somewhat eased Beth’s expression. “You told me that day that you were making a stop to shop,” she scolded, her voice tinged with disbelief. “I never imagined you would come up with a plot to hurt Ms. Adam! This is utterly preposterous! Do laws mean nothing to you?”
