Chapter 242 A Dilemma
“Wait, I haven’t brushed my teeth!” Maggie attempted to evade the topic.
Nathael’s reminder gradually stirred the once–confused memories, causing Maggie’s cheeks to flush and heat up from the roots of her ears.
After an extended period, Maggie found herself weakened by his kisses, as if she had received more affection in these few days than throughout her entire previous life.
“Ms. Adam appears to have perpetually questioned my capabilities,” Nathael murmured softly, twirling her cascading hair with his fingers, his voice laced with huskiness.
Maggie’s throat constricted, blinking as she gazed at him, her hands clasping his neck as she whispered, *Do
you want to
Before she could complete her sentence, Nathael’s phone suddenly rang, abruptly cutting off their
conversation.
Nathael glanced at his phone, ended the call, and then directed his gaze down at Maggie, inquiring, “What do you want?”
Maggie’s crimson lips curled, a flicker of mischief dancing in her captivating eyes. “How about some pan- fried buns?” she suggested playfully.
Nathael was speechless.
Just as he was about to reply, Nathael’s phone rang once more, catching Maggie’s attention. Upon a quick glance, she noticed the caller ID displaying ‘Mom
“Perhaps you should pick up the phone, Maggie suggested, nudging him gently to attend to the call.
With no other option, Nathael rose from his seat and made his way to the floor–to–ceiling window to take the call, greeting with a simple, “Hello, Mom.”
Meanwhile, Maggie made her way to the bathroom, her limp evident as she prepared to take a shower.
Upon hearing the sound of movement, Nathael turned around with a disapproving expression, his brows furrowing in concern.
Maggie blew him a playful kiss before flashing a smile, her eyes crinkling at the corners, before vanishing into the bathroom.
A soft chuckle escaped Nathael, his eyes holding a hint of warmth and affection.
“Nathael, do you have a girlfriend? Has she become pregnant?”
Clara’s brows knitted in a frown as she struggled to contain her anger, though her tone inadvertently grew louder.
“Or have you fallen victim to someone’s deceit? How could you act so recklessly? You must provide me with a thorough explanation of what transpired!”
Clara was displeased, massaging her temples as she sensed her blood pressure escalating.

Nathael remained composed, his voice resonating with depth. “I’ll arrange for her to meet you on another
occasion.”
It wasn’t unexpected for news of his relationship with Maggie to reach his mother’s attention, but he harboured no inclination to conceal it either.
“Really? Who is this lady? Send me a photo so I can see her. Regardless of how much you’re fond of her, you mustn’t impregnate her. I always believed you were dependable in this regard!”
Clara’s expression softened marginally upon hearing his assurance that he would introduce someone to her.
At the very least, it indicated his sincerity, unlike those frivolous playboys who merely toyed with
emotions.
“You’ll understand once you meet her. You’ll take a liking to her, Nathael remarked in his deep voice, opting not to send a photo of Maggie to her.
Clara sighed heavily and responded, “You’re aware that your grandpa has always wished for you to marry into the Brays. I fear this issue will surface soon, and if your grandpa learns of this, you
She seemed to have further thoughts to express, yet ultimately, the words remained unsaid, trapped within her.
Moments later, Clara spoke again, “Does this have any connection to the adopted daughter of the Camerons?”
Since Nathael had her purchase Luster Corporation’s jewels the last time, she had a sense that something
was awry.
Nathae had always been reassuring since he was young, so after some consideration, she refrained from probing further.
Little did she expect that not long after, Beth would inform her that the girl was expecting a child.
Clara was nearly breathless, on the verge of fainting
With a smile, Nathael remarked, “Aren’t you thrilled about becoming a grandma?”
you “I” Clara hesitated for a moment, unable to find her voice, before finally saying, “No, this afternoon brought her to see me. Or better yet, I’ll call your dad, book a private room, and both of you come over.”
Nathael turned to look at the woman leaning against the bathroom door, seemingly hesitant to emerge, and uttered in a low voice, “It might not be convenient.”
Upon hearing this, Clara became even more restless. “Why is it inconvenient? Is she already showing signs of pregnancy? So soon?”
Nathael remained silent.
“No, no. We can find it somewhere near your place. I must see her today,” Clara insisted.
Without waiting for Nathael to respond, Clara promptly ended the call. She immediately arranged for a full–body treatment appointment and had a plethora of seasonal new products delivered.
Meeting her daughter–in–law for the first time, she couldn’t afford to be impolite.
After issuing instructions all around, she pondered whether to send a gift and dialled Nathael’s number
once more.
“Nathael, what are Maggie’s preferences? I’m preparing a gift to bring along,” she asked, feeling somewhat nervous for reasons she couldn’t quite explain.
“She likes me,” Nathael replied seriously.
Clara was momentarily taken aback and exclaimed, “Huh!”
The following moment, Clara icyly and mercilessly terminated the call.
Nathael was speechless.
Maggie emerged from the bathroom and sat on the edge of the bed, her gaze fixed on him. “Are you finished?”
Nathael turned to her, his voice soft and calm. “This afternoon, my parents would like to meet you.”
Maggie was startled.
“Let’s grab breakfast before anything else,” he suggested, lifting her effortlessly around the waist and carrying her into the living room.
Distracted by the sudden news of meeting Nathael’s parents, Maggie found herself lost in contemplation.
In my previous life, I might have felt anxious but likely wouldn’t have declined.
However, now I was uncertain about my remaining time, so how could I commit to meeting his parents again?
Maggie sat at the dining table, her attention drifting as she observed the opulent breakfast display before her.
In a deep tone, Nathael proposed, “How about tomorrow morning, we head to Garnet Street for some croissants and egg casserole?”
“Sure.”
Maggie ate with a hint of distraction, acknowledging that there were certain matters she had long avoided but now found herself compelled to address.
Uncertain whether she should remain by his side in her current condition, she grappled with the possibility of causing him further pain. Despite this awareness, she couldn’t bring herself to depart from him.
She would sometimes selfishly contemplate that even a mere handful of years by his side would suffice. Even if fleeting, they would bring her solace.
In her previous existence, she harboured suspicion, animosity, revulsion, and inflicted pain upon him. Throughout those extended yet ephemeral instances, she never truly relished their companionship, nor did she treasure it.
She indulged in the notion that perhaps these few years were pilfered, the most generous recompense fate

However, while contemplating remaining by his side, Maggie never entertained the idea of marrying him, let alone meeting his parents.

She simply assumed that after her passing, Nathael would take some time before embarking on a new chapter in his life.
She understood that it was always a challenging and agonising journey for him, yet she couldn’t bear to bid. farewell.
Maybe, just maybe, I would live a bit longer, a tad longer?
I was perpetually consumed by greed, unwilling to release my grasp on him yet yearning for his happiness.
“Perhaps we should postpone the meeting for a while? Could you assist me in declining?”
Maggie couldn’t even recall what she had consumed in her disarrayed state, and the flavours hardly registered on her palate anyway.
Gazing at Nathael, she felt a sense of nervousness and unease creeping over her.
Nathael set aside his chopsticks, his intense gaze fixed upon her, and uttered slowly, “You’re not keen on meeting them.”
It was a declaration, devoid of any inquiry.
A lump formed in Maggie’s throat. She had long been aware of his perceptive ability to discern people’s innermost thoughts. He was sharp and astute.
