Chapter 235 Wishes Do Come True

Table Mountain stood on the outskirts of Aquapolis, infamous for its precarious landscape. Though dangerous, the peak housed a wide space, perfect for racing

The mountain saw itself visited by hordes of people, especially the younger and richer people who were on a hunt for thrills. They were like sharks drawn to blood

The car slithered up the winding path

Maggie was quiet. Too quiet. She rolled the window down and leaned on her seat, spacing out

As they drove up the mountain, the road lay silent under the cloak of darkness, punctuated only by the wind’s whispers and distant animal calls from the forest

The night air brushed against Maggie’s skin, leaving a gentle shiver in its wake

Earlier, lost in a whirlwind of alcohol, Maggie drank without care, blending various concoctions. In this surreal moment, she hovered in a haze, her mind a blend of confusion and clarity

After another thirty minutes, a spectacular scene unfolded before them. Luxury cars of every kind dotted the landscape, surrounded by scantily clad women, men with bold hair colours, rich individuals, and captivating heiresses

The dimly lit space glowed with strung lights, while vendors hustled to sell beer and beverages. Crowds. gathered, discussing the race’s prospects and debating over the most captivating women

Amidst the thumping music, a vivid and lively atmosphere materialised, almost akin to stepping into another realm filled with its own distinct vitality. Maggie had the urge to race a few laps.

She was not a pro behind the wheel because the Camerons mentored her; it was more like she picked up the skill to cover for Sierra

Sierra might be young, but she had a knack for stirring up trouble, especially when the Camerons have her back. Maggie had been in tight spots where Sierra was hunted down, and try as she might, she couldn’t shield Sierra from harm the first time around

Whenever she came back from that scrape, Olivia and Ronald would shoot her these pitying, sort of disappointed looks. Maggie would drown in guilt, beating herself up over it. So, she decided to turn things. around, seeking advice and dedicating herself to sharpening her racing skills

It might’ve been an unorthodox route, but it sure did the trick. Racing on Table Mountain became her thing, often teaming up with Leo for the thrill. Out there, it was all raw and risky, every manoeuver counting on the brink of danger. But with her innate gift, and despite a few knocks, her driving improved significantly

For a while, she avoided driving in the city, afraid that once she took the wheel, she’d yearn for speed uncontrollably. The rush and unpredictability had become oddly comforting during restless times. But with the Camerons preoccupied and her vision lost because of Sierra’s antics, the chance to drive slipped

Leo’s car pulled up to a stop at the modification spot, where a burly guy in a tank top and gleaming chain

Maggie hopped out of the car, chilling by the curb, snagging two beers and tossing one to Leo like it was nothing

Exiting the car, Maggie drew the attention of many, eliciting whistles from the crowd

Tall and graceful, clad in a plain white dress that accentuated her slender frame and porcelain skin, she commanded the gaze of all who beheld her. Despite the aloofness in her eyes, her beauty held them transfixed

Unperturbed by the stares, Maggie remained nonchalant

Leo cracked open the beer, shedding his

jacket and passing it to her with a gentle murmur, You seem in

Maggie fell silent briefly before tilting her head back, downing the beer in a single gulp

The frosty bite of the drink sent a jolt through her, surprising her with how enjoyable alcohol could be. In that moment, she just wanted to lose herself in it

Downing it fast left her with reddened eyes, glossy lips, and pupils alight with the buzz of alcohol

I don’t think I have much longer to live, Leo, Maggie confessed, a wry smile playing on her lips as she met Leo’s gaze

If anyone’s gotta know, it has to be Leo

Leo froze midsip, eyeing her intently. How long you figure?”

Maggie let out a soft laugh. Maybe thirty? If I’m pushing it, two more years?”

Her gaze wandered to the shadowy mountains on the horizon, a sense of cosmic irony washing over her

Leo took a beat before speaking, his words measured, Was it the Camerons?”

Yeah, it’s said to be some toxin called Dream Venom, Maggie answered in a hushed tone

Leo’s eyes turned cold, devoid of any warmth, leaving only a chill in his gaze

What’s your move from here?Leo’s gaze softened as he looked at her, his tone gentle

It was as if Maggie’s words were just a casual exchange, asking about the weather rather than a matter of life and death

With a faint smile, Maggie’s desolate face held a touch of determination, her almond eyes piercing and cold. Of course, I’ll drag the Camerons down with me, no doubt about it.”

Five and a half years is plenty

Plenty of time to dismantle the Camerons

But what about Nathael

Marrie had been nushing Nathael out of her mind but it was impossible not to dwell on in

soft, her cheeks tinged with colour, her gaze distant

She understood the agony of memories all too well

The sweeter the memories, the harsher the truth felt; the happier the dreams, the sadder the awakening

If you never had it, never really owned it, never felt it to your core, maybe losing it wouldn’t sting so much, Maggie

Turning to Leo, she murmured, I’m not sure I should stick around with him.”

With those words, a sharp ache throbbed in Maggie’s chest, as if a dagger had pierced straight through

A selfdeprecating chuckle escaped Maggie as she pondered the length of their relationship

Surprisingly, the notion of parting ways weighed heavily on her..

Leo’s gaze softened from its icy demeanour, a touch of warmth seeping through. You know I’m indifferent to the result, or Nathael’s fate. I just want you to follow your heart.”

He said gently with steady voice as he averted his eyes

If Maggie found joy with Nathael, Leo hoped she would continue to be happy

But if she find herself unfulfilled or troubled, he believed a clean break would be for the best

Above all, he wanted her to understand that he’d support her decisions wholeheartedly

"Nonsense! He is obviously brilliant and noble,"Maggie retorted in anger. Another one said, "Nathael is a psy cho. He will retaliate, forcing people to have their families destroyed." Maggie sneered, "Bullsh*t! He has always been a man who doesn't offend if no one offended him." Some one else said, "Nathael is heartless. You will not live happily with him." Maggie chuckled, "That's ridiculous! He is full of sincerity and loves me deeply. He is the best man in the world." Others said, "Although Nathael is good, he is not good at 'that'. It is a pity that Maggie is still in her prime." Maggie responded, "Well ... " She seemed unable to argue with this. That night, Maggie kissed Nathael comfortingly, saying, "It's okay, Honey. I don't mind." "Really?" Nathael chuckled, a bit helpless. He turned over, pressed her under him, and kissed her fiercely. Later, the only sound left in the room was Maggie's choking, begging for mercy.
