Chapter 219 The Kept Man
Nathael decided to take Maggie home to change clothes before heading out for lunch..
Later in the day, Danielle informed them that they didn’t need to attend the ceremony to confirm their advancement to the second round of the competition, but they had to watch the live broadcast at home or review the replay beforehand.
With the second round still a week away, Maggic felt no rush.
At 2 PM, Nathael dropped Maggie off at the Camerons‘ residence.
Just as Maggie was bidding him farewell, she watched as Nathael instructed Alex to retrieve several costly gifts from the car’s trunk.
Confused, Maggie asked, “What’s all this for?”
Nathael replied, his voice deep and firm as he gripped her hand tightly. “It’s time to pay a visit to your
parents.
His gaze softened as it met hers.
Maggie was momentarily taken aback, touched by his gesture.
Pay a visit to my parents? Bullsh*t!
He’s just trying to make sure I’m not mistreated by the Camerons.
By his presence. Nathael aimed to deter any attempts by Ronald or Master Cameron to cause trouble for
her.
Worried about potential eavesdroppers, Maggie hugged his waist and whispered, “Now that you’re here, Ronald will surely try to gain something from you.”
She didn’t want him entangled in the Camerons‘ affairs..
Just as he protected her, she wanted to shield him.
Nathael ruffled her hair affectionately, admitting, I’m not the saint you think I am, Maggie.”
Maggie caught a whiff of the crisp cedar scent on him and murmured softly, “But in my heart, you are.”
Nathael’s eyes twinkled with delight at her words.
A few minutes later, Maggie stepped through the Camerons‘ gate.
Mary, seething with rage like a raging bull, hurled a hefty ashtray towards Maggie. With a burning gaze, she barked, “You troublemaker! How dare you show your face here! The Camerons took care of you all these years, but you turned out ot be a backstabber! Now you think you’re all grown up, and you can do whatever you want, huh?! Why didn’t you wear the necklace your mom gave you? What was that thing around your neck?”

Thankfully, Nathael acted swiftly and pulled her out of harm’s way.
Despite that, the ashtray crashed to the ground near Maggie’s feet, sending glass shards flying everywhere.
Fortunately, with Nathael shielding her, Maggie escaped unharmed. However, she noticed several glass pieces had landed on Nathael,
Concerned, she asked. “Are you alright? Did you get hurt?”
Nathael reassured her quietly. Tm fine.”
Suppressing her displeasure, Maggie faced Mary and addressed her tentatively. “Aunt Mary…”
“Don’t you dare call me Aunt Mary! I don’t have a useless niece like you! I wonder what great things you did in your past life to end up in the Camerons!” Mary snapped, her anger boiling over. But as she spoke, she caught sight of a man standing next to Maggie, causing her to pause in surprise.
She demanded, “Who’s this? Where did this kept man come from? You still have the audacity to bring someone home after the stunt you pulled?! Have you no shame?”
Mary scrutinized Nathael suspiciously.
The man was dressed in a dark blue suit and a crisp white shirt. He had only a wristwatch and a thin red string as accessories, which made it difficult to figure out who he was.
His outfit didn’t seem to be from luxury brands, and she couldn’t see his watch clealry due to the angle.
But even though Mary wasn’t very experienced, she could sense his authority. His intense g down her spine, filling her with an unexplained fear.
Maggie discreetly scratched Nathael’s palm, silently communicating with him.
See, she’s calling you a kept man.
gaze sent chills
“Aunt Mary, I know you’re mad about the competition, but I really didn’t mean to … Maggie tiptoed around the topic as she explained.
She didn’t mention that Nathael had given her the necklace she wore, nor did she reveal that the man beside was Nathael.
It was clear that Mary’s outburst was a warning from Ronald to assert his dominance.
Ronald knew the truth but chose to stay silent, using Mary as a tool to send a message.
He was cautioning her not to think that having Nathael’s support meant she could ignore the Camerons.
Tsk, the Camerons are always playing mind games.
“Enough with the excuses! If Luster Corporation fails, you’ll regret it!”
Mary felt a pang of heartache at the thought of her investment in Luster Corporation.
It was almost all her savings!
She couldn’t direct her anger towards Ronald and Noah and with Olivia and Ronald protecting Sierra, she

could only vent her frustration on Maggie, the adopted daughter.
I’m sorry, Aunt Mary. I did want to wear the necklace you picked out, but then my boyfriend suddenly gave me another one. I didn’t want to disappoint him…” Maggie tried to squeeze out a few tears.
Her eyes turned slightly red, portraying a pitiful image.
Mary exploded upon hearing this.
“Your boyfriend? What nonsense is that! Is your boyfriend more important than the future of Luster Corporation? So you just wear whatever your boyfriend gives you? Do you have any loyalty to the Camerons?
Mary was showering Maggie with insults, and Nathael, with a dangerous gaze, was about to say something when Ronald intervened sharply from upstairs, “Shut up! What nonsense are you talking?”
Hearing the commotion, Mary turned to see Ronald, Joseph, and Master Cameron rushing down from the study, their steps hurried and disorganized.
Maggie, hidden from view, subtly tugged at her lip, a hint of mockery flashing in her eyes.
*Ronald, this troublemaker leeches off the family while causing trouble for us, and now she’s trying to distance herself when things get tough. And she’s talking about her so–called boyfriend, thinking that bringing him home will get her protection. Let me tell you-
Before Mary could finish her sentence, Ronald came down the stairs and forcefully pulled her away.
“I told you to shut up!”
“Why should I shut up? I invested so much money. I’m just telling the truth! Look at Maggie, bringing in some kept man-
While Ronald usually protected Sierra, Mary always disapproved of him protecting Maggie.
But this time, before she could finish her sentence, Ronald raised his hand and slapped her hard across the face.
“I said shut up!”
Mary stumbled, her head buzzing and her cheek burning. “Ronald, did you just hit me?”
Ignoring her, Ronald walked briskly towards Nathael. “I apologize for my sister’s behavior, Mr. Harris. She’s an idiot. Please don’t hold it against her!”
