Chapter 178 Love Could Change
Two evenings later, as the Cameron family’s troubles stirred gossip, an auction unfolded in an Aquapolis- auction house.
Maggie and Mia arrived and briefly surveyed the auction items.
Since the event hadn’t officially begun, all items were presented in transparent cases with professional lighting and secured locks.
Maggie and Mia walked around the hall. After confirming that the auction had the music score and vintage fan Maggie desired, they aimed to secure seats with better views.
However, after taking just a few steps, they encountered a familiar face.
Beth, donned in a pink asymmetrical dress and holding a wine glass, directed someone while glancing around the display cases.
Upon spotting Maggie, Beth’s demeanor cooled a notch.
In that moment, Emma rushed over. “Beth, I spotted a pen I think Ericko would like. Please reserve it for
me.”
Beth remained silent initially, and Emma realized her blunder upon following Beth’s gaze to Maggie and Mia.
“Oh, look. The Camerons‘ princess has graced us with her presence amidst their difficulties. I wonder if the Camerons will ever repay their debts,” Emma quipped, her sarcasm evident.
She had shoulder–length hair, which made her look chic.
Maggie smirked and retorted, “Ms. Holland, you seem to worry a lot despite your young age. No wonder you appear more mature than our peers.”
With that remark, Emma’s ire flared. “Maggie, you’re just a foster daughter of the Camerons. They’re on the verge of bankrupt, yet you still have the audacity to say such things here?”
Unperturbed, Maggie met Emma’s gaze with a slight smile. “Even if the Camerons are facing problems, it’s still better than the Hollands, who’ve been reduced to begging these past few years. Do you think the Hollands have made a comeback? Or do you believe that being a trophy wife, with your achievements merely bought with money, secures your future?”
Emma seethed with anger at Maggie’s words and nearly lost her composure as she trembled with fury.
Yet Maggie maintained her smile, her eyes filled with open disdain and mockery. Her expression made Emma wish she could rip her face apart!
Mia raised an eyebrow, scrutinizing Emma. Then, as if trying to stir up trouble, she kindly advised, “But seriously, Ms. Holland, you need to improve your taste. With your eye for things, Ericko won’t appreciate what you give him.”
Emma’s face paled before turning red, feeling her deepest insecurities being poked at.
Yet Mia wore a sincere look, as if offering friendly advice.

“Ms. Adam, you’re sharp–tongued, and you even brought a good helper. But I advise you not to go too far,” Beth warned, pulling Emma to her side and giving Maggie a stern look.
“Why?” Maggie asked, smiling.
After a pause, she continued, provocatively, “Ms. Bray, are you angry? Are you upset? But what can you do when Nathael has already chosen me over you? Isn’t that right?”
Her smile was both mocking and arrogant.
Beth had never seen such a shameless woman before. Normally composed, she now felt her anger rising.
“Emma, let’s go,” Beth said with a dark look and left with Emma without retorting.
Maggie and Mia stood in place, watching them leave.
Mia, who was wearing red nail polish, finished her champagne with a bored expression. “How lame. They’re leaving already.”
Maggie’s eyes were deep as she said slowly, “A dog that barks doesn’t bite. Someone like Beth is dangerous.”
With that, Maggie called Leo. “Leo, there’s been a change of plans. I think you need to come over.
“I ran into Beth, and knowing her, she’ll probably compete with me,” Maggie said coolly.
She had come here initially because Kevin Dunphy’s birthday was coming up. Kevin was the piano teacher Leo had introduced to her. Over the years, he had taught her and shared with her his knowledge generously. To Maggie, Kevin was like family.
She and Leo caught wind of a piano composition by the renowned pianist Torvalan that was up for grabs at this auction. Despite not being an original manuscript, it could be said to be authentic.
While the manuscript wasn’t directly pinned by Torvalan, it was traced on the paper beneath his real manuscript that carried the imprint from his pen..
These faint imprints, coupled with occasional ink seepage, were meticulously replicated by someone, giving it a semblance of authenticity.
Although Maggie would have preferred to obtain Torvalan’s genuine manuscript, which had been lost for years, this replicated version that involved the tracing of his actual handwriting held significant value.
With Kevin’s birthday approaching, Maggie intended to bid on this sheet music as a gift for him. Additionally, she had crafted a personalized brooch to present to him.
Besides, there was an antique fan rumored to be painted by a famous artist from the Victorian period. She intended to buy it and give it to Kevin as well.
But now, seeing Beth’s reaction Maggie felt that if Beth caught wind of her plans, she would definitely try to thwart them. So, she had to call Leo, someone who had no apparent connection with her, to come over.
“Mia, what items did the Gatlins submit for auction this time?” Maggie hung up and turned to Mia.
An azure porcelain vase, Mia replied. Sensing Maggie’s gaze, she shivered uncontrollably.

Why do I have a feeling that Maggie’s up to something again?
Maggie pondered silently. That’s perfect. The market for azure porcelain is booming, so the price wouldn’t be cheap.
It would be a good opportunity to outwit Beth and help Mr. Gatlin make a big profit.
While Maggie was contemplating, she and Mia took their seats.
Twenty minutes before the auction started, Maggie’s phone rang. She thought it was Leo, but to her surprise, it was Nathael.
Nathael had just landed, and the first thing he did was call Maggie. “Where are you?”
“At the auction, Maggie said, giving him the address without much thought. “Are you done with work?”
“Yeah. Nathael replied casually, glancing at the night view of Aquapolis as he disembarked from the plane.
Perhaps because he was much closer to her now, he felt that Aquapolis‘ nights were much more beautiful than those abroad.
“It’s about to start. I’ll hop on a video call with you later,” Maggie said warmly, as she had been frequently video chatting with him to check on his injuries these days.
“No need. I have something to do later.” Nathael declined.
Maggie frowned dis
but didn’t say anything. Has he gotten injured again?
But did this jerk actually reject me? It’s true that love could change!
